If you’re familiar with Russian ammo, then you already know what you’re signing up for when you order Red Army Standard 308 Win. One of the reasons this ammo costs less is its steel cases. They’re not reloadable, and they may cause noticeably more fouling of your rifle’s action – but steel is a way cheaper metal than brass!
This ammo is topped off with 150 grain FMJ bullets, but they are slightly different than the FMJ projectiles loaded here in America. Russian FMJs have what are known as “bimetal jackets.” These are made almost entirely out of steel (with a thin copper wash on the outside), which means they will attract a magnet. If your range bans magnetic ammo, then they’re not going to let you in with a case of Red Army Standard.
Some shooters are wary of Berdan primers because they could be corrosive. But modern Russian Berdan-primed ammo is always non-corrosive, so there’s no need to worry about this 308 ruining your favorite gun!
